Summer Vacay - Day 3: Canada Day!

Henderson LakeI love Canada Day. I think it's so important to celebrate and remember how blessed we are to live in a country that is so beautiful, multicultural and provides us with the many freedoms we have. It's not perfect but what is? Last Canada we lit off a fire crackers and fire works of our own in the Philippines but this year was our first in 5 years to actually celebrate in Canada. We started our day at church where we got to hear people share why they feel so blessed to live in Canada setting the perfect mood for the day. We met up with some friends briefly at Henderson Lake where we walked around and enjoyed the crowds celebrating Canada. The weather was amazing and it was great to just be outside enjoying the time together. From Henderson we made our way to Galt Gardens where my step brother, Scott Mezei, was playing with a band. The City had a big canvas up with a bunch of paint for the people to explore their creative sides and is where my kids spent the majority of our time. Scott's music was perfect for the day and easy to listen too. I got the girls up dancing with me for a few minutes before they lost their courage and went back into the crowd with Dad. There were some really hard core dancers that seemed like hippy sort really grooving out and entertaining us all and then there was a young group girlfriends having a blast together with some air guitar action.

ChillingFrom there we made our way over to my dads for dinner. Nice and casual in the newly landscaped backyard. Nothing says I'm proud to be a Canadian like a perfectly BBQ'd smokey and family. After dinner the kids roasted us marshmellows while we ate watermelon and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. For a day that was originally going to be overcast with showers it turned out to be absolutely perfect. If there was any wind we were completely sheltered in the backyard and I didn't even notice. After our food started to settle the kids played soccer in the yard and showed off their skills in a game with Auntie K and MK where I believe the girls won (girl power) and as the sun started to go down we moved to the fire pit to keep us warm. The kids were entertained the entire time making my job easy and giving me the opportunity to just chill out, relax, and enjoy the moment.

We even stayed up for the fireworks and watched them from the balcony in the yard. Maddy was the only one who fell asleep and the poor thing fell asleep during the display! One tired little girl. Happy Birthday Canada.

  1. This was a fun night. And btw, it was dodgeball. And boys won best out of three... barely. (Sigh)
